How to connect to your VPS
with Remote Desktop
Remote Desktop is built into every version of Windows from XP onwards, including 10 and 11. You need the IP address, the username and the password from your welcome email, and nothing else.
Watch it instead
Find the details in your welcome email
After payment and activation we email you the IP address, the username and the password. The IP looks like 149.56.202.16. That email is the only place the password appears — we cannot read it back to you afterwards.
Open Remote Desktop
Press Win + R, type mstsc and press Enter. It is built into Windows, so there is nothing to download.
Enter the server IP address
Paste the IP into the Computer field and click Connect. On a slow connection, click Show Options first and set Experience to a lower setting.
Sign in
Type the username and password from the email. Tick Remember me if this is your own machine, then click OK. Paste the password rather than typing it — they are long on purpose.
Accept the certificate warning
Windows says it cannot verify the identity of the computer. That is expected on a new server and safe to accept here. Tick Don't ask me again and click Yes.
You are in
A Windows desktop appears. Anything you leave running keeps running after you disconnect — that is the point of a VPS.
If it does not connect
The connection times out
Almost always a firewall on your side, or the wrong IP. Check the address against the email character by character, then try from a phone on mobile data. If the phone works, the block is on your own network rather than the server.
The password is rejected
Paste rather than type, and check for a space at the end. If it still fails, reset it from the client area — about thirty seconds, and no ticket needed.
It connects, then drops after a minute
Usually your own internet rather than the server. Your terminals keep trading while you are disconnected, so a dropped session does not stop an EA.
A black screen after signing in
Give it fifteen seconds on a first login while Windows builds the profile. If it stays black, disconnect and reconnect once.
"Another user is signed in"
Somebody else is on the machine, or an old session did not close. Disconnecting properly avoids it next time.
