A Windows VPS is an empty machine until you know what goes on it. Here is what ours are actually used for, and which plan each one wants.
If your software runs on Linux — most web apps, Node, Python, Docker, databases other than MSSQL — you are paying for a licence you will not use. Our Linux plans start lower for the same hardware, and we would rather you bought the right one.

Our advice
Changed your mind after ordering? Reinstall onto a different edition from your own panel — it takes about ten minutes and costs nothing. Take a snapshot first if there is anything on the machine worth keeping.

Everything here is a button you press yourself, on every plan. Locked out at two in the morning is exactly when a support queue is no use to anybody.

Windows Server is not free — providers pay Microsoft monthly and pass it on. Some show it on the price page; most show it after you have chosen.
On a four-core machine, Vultr's licence alone costs more than our largest plan. Figures are each provider's own published licence pricing, checked in July 2026 — they move, so tell us if you find one out of date.
