TradeStation VPS TradeStation VPS

TradeStation VPS —
two gigabytes a workspace.

TradeStation is a desktop application with a scanner and a charting engine behind it, and it holds about what NinjaTrader does. Two gigabytes a workspace, and rather more if RadarScreen is running.

  • .NET installed, TradeStation ready to sign in
  • 42 cities — pick the one nearest your broker
  • Windows Server licence included

How much RAM does TradeStation need?

2 GB = 1
of memory workspace

It is a .NET desktop platform rather than a browser tab, so it sits at the heavier end. 4 GB runs two workspaces — and if RadarScreen is scanning a few hundred symbols, count another gigabyte for it alone.

Sizing it

Two gigabytes,
one workspace.

TradeStation is closer to NinjaTrader than to a browser platform: .NET underneath, a real charting engine, and a scanner that will use whatever you give it. The rule doubles here, same as it does for NinjaTrader.

2 GB = 1 Double the usual rule.

One workspace wants two gigabytes. RadarScreen scanning several hundred symbols wants a third on top of that.

Plan What the memory holds Terminals
2 GB Eco Pro win + 1 1 terminal
4 GB ULTRA VPS win + 1 TradeStation 2 terminals
6 GB PREMIUM VPS win + 1 TradeStation TradeStation 3 terminals
8 GB PROFESSIONAL win + 1 TradeStation TradeStation TradeStation 4 terminals
Two gigabytes a workspace · RadarScreen wants a third on top

RadarScreen is the thing that decides your plan. A handful of charts is undemanding; a scanner watching six hundred symbols with custom indicators on each is the heaviest job on this platform, and it is worth telling us what you scan before choosing.

Four ways in

Which one holds
your terminals.

Straight from the rule. If it turns out wrong we move you up free of charge — you will not be asked to buy a second month to find out.

The High Frequency plan holds the same three as the Best. What you pay the difference for is clock speed — a Ryzen 9 at 5.7 GHz rather than an EPYC core — which matters for a scalping EA and not at all for a swing strategy.

Broker and platform, one company

TradeStation is both
your broker and your software.

That is unusual, and it changes what you can and cannot do with the account.

TradeStation

TradeStation

2 GB a workspace

  • The broker builds the platform, so the two are never out of step
  • EasyLanguage has been stable for thirty years and is well documented
  • RadarScreen scans hundreds of symbols live, which few rivals match
  • You cannot take it to another broker, because it is the broker
MetaTrader 5

MetaTrader 5

1 GB a terminal

  • The same terminal at hundreds of brokers, so you can move
  • Lighter, so more of it fits on the same plan
  • A large market in ready-made expert advisors
  • Nothing approaching RadarScreen for live scanning
Worth knowing first

EasyLanguage, RadarScreen,
and what they cost you.

The platform and the broker are the same company

With MetaTrader you choose a broker and the software follows. With TradeStation there is no separation: the account and the platform come from one firm, and leaving means leaving both.

The upside is that nothing is ever mismatched — no broker-specific quirks, no waiting for a firm to update its build. The cost is that everything you write in EasyLanguage stays there. It is worth knowing before you spend two years building strategies on it.

RadarScreen is what fills the memory

A workspace with charts is undemanding. RadarScreen is not: it holds live data for every symbol in the list, recalculates your indicators on each tick, and a few hundred rows with custom studies will take a gigabyte on its own.

This is the single thing that decides which plan suits you. Two workspaces and no scanner fits four gigabytes comfortably; one workspace with a six-hundred-symbol scan does not. Tell us what you scan and we will size it rather than guess.

EasyLanguage runs on the machine, not on their servers

Strategies written in EasyLanguage execute in the platform, on whichever computer the platform is running on. Close it and the strategy stops.

That is the whole argument for a VPS here, and it is a stronger one than on the browser platforms: an automated TradeStation strategy genuinely cannot run without a machine that stays on. If your strategies are manual, the case is much weaker and we would rather say so.

Data is part of the account, not a separate feed

Unlike NinjaTrader, TradeStation includes its market data with the account rather than sending you to Rithmic or Kinetick. There are still exchange fees for some products, but there is no third feed to arrange and no separate connection to keep alive.

One fewer moving part on a machine that has to run unattended, which is worth something.

Before you spend anything.

The questions our support desk actually receives, answered plainly.

About two gigabytes a workspace, Windows included — it is a .NET desktop platform rather than a browser tab. RadarScreen scanning several hundred symbols wants a gigabyte of its own on top.
If it is automated, yes. EasyLanguage executes inside the platform on whatever machine the platform is running on — close TradeStation and the strategy stops. A VPS is the machine that does not close.
It holds live data for every symbol in the list and recalculates your indicators on each tick. A few hundred rows with custom studies is genuinely heavy, and it is usually what decides which plan someone needs.
It comes with the account rather than from a separate feed, unlike NinjaTrader. Exchange fees still apply to some products, but there is no third-party feed to arrange or keep connected.
No. TradeStation is the broker as well as the platform, so the account and the software are the same relationship. Anything you build in EasyLanguage stays with them.
Yes. Count TradeStation as two gigabytes and each MetaTrader terminal as one, so one workspace and two terminals is four.
Close to their servers, which are in the United States. New York and Chicago are the two to consider, and our broker pages carry the measured figures from each of our cities.

Still unsure which plan or which city? Send us your broker's account server name and we will measure it before you buy.
