Generating strategies is batch work: it wants every core you can give it and does not care about latency. Running them is the opposite. Put them on the same box and each one makes the other worse.

Sixty-four gigabytes is the ceiling worth paying for. StrategyQuant say there is little sense in more, and that the money is better spent on a faster processor. We would rather sell you FX-04 and have it be right than sell you the largest and have you find out.

One machine, if you must

You can run SQX and your live terminals on the same server, and plenty of people do. Be aware of the trade: a generation run will take everything the CPU has, and your terminals are on that CPU too. If the machine is large enough it matters less — but this is the reason StrategyQuant advise against it, not a detail we invented.

A generation run can take days. Take an image first so a crash costs you minutes rather than the week.

The questions our support desk actually receives, answered plainly.

You can, and for light work it is fine. StrategyQuant themselves say a dedicated server is the better choice for continuous or remote use, because shared CPU can be much slower than the advertised core count suggests. That is their advice, not our sales pitch.
Roughly one per two cores, with about 2 GB each — the figure that circulates on StrategyQuant's own forum. One modern instance can often saturate a machine on its own, so start with one and add more only if the cores are not busy.
StrategyQuant say no: past 64 GB the money is better spent on a faster processor. We would rather you bought the right machine than the biggest one.
Server 2022 or 2025 on anything above sixteen cores. Older editions constrain a process to a single processor group, which means SQX cannot use all of a large machine.
Not if you can avoid it. A generation run will use every core it can find, and your live terminals are on those cores too. Generation is batch work with no deadline; execution is the opposite.
