Latency is one of the most important factors in Forex trading, especially for scalpers, Expert Advisors (EAs), high-frequency traders, and copy trading systems. Lower latency between your Forex VPS and broker trading server can help reduce execution delay and improve trading performance.

What Is Forex Broker Latency?
Latency refers to the communication delay between your Forex VPS and your broker’s trading server.
Lower latency means faster order execution and quicker communication with the broker server.
- 1ms – 5ms = Excellent
- 5ms – 20ms = Very Good
- 20ms – 50ms = Average
- 50ms+ = High latency
Step 1 – Open Your MT4 Or MT5 Terminal
Login to your Forex VPS and open your MetaTrader terminal.
At the bottom-right corner of MT4/MT5, you will see the connection speed indicator.
The number shown in milliseconds (ms) is your broker latency.
Step 1 – Open MT4 or MT5 and locate the latency indicator at the bottom-right corner.Step 2 – Use The Built-In Broker Ping Tool
Most MT4 and MT5 terminals allow you to manually scan broker servers and compare latency.
- Go to Navigator
- Right click on Accounts
- Select “Open an Account”
- Scan broker servers
MT4/MT5 will automatically show the ping result for each server.
Step 2 – Scan broker servers and compare ping latency values.Step 3 – Find Your Broker Server IP Address
Some brokers block traditional ping requests. In this case, you can identify the broker server IP using Windows tools.
Inside Resource Monitor:
- Go to the Network tab

This allows you to see which server your MT4/MT5 terminal is connected to.

- SG – Singapore
- TYO – Tokyo
Step 4 – Identify your broker server location for better VPS optimization.Step 5 – Optimize Your VPS Location
If your latency is high, the best solution is usually moving your VPS closer to the broker server location.
