FXS VPS • Forex Latency Guide

How To Check Forex Broker Latency From VPS

Latency is one of the most important factors in Forex trading, especially for scalpers, Expert Advisors (EAs), high-frequency traders, and copy trading systems. Lower latency between your Forex VPS and broker trading server can help reduce execution delay and improve trading performance.

In this guide, you will learn how to properly check Forex broker latency directly from your VPS using multiple methods.

How To Check Forex Broker Latency From VPS

What Is Forex Broker Latency?

Latency refers to the communication delay between your Forex VPS and your broker’s trading server.

Lower latency means faster order execution and quicker communication with the broker server.

Typical latency examples:
  • 1ms – 5ms = Excellent
  • 5ms – 20ms = Very Good
  • 20ms – 50ms = Average
  • 50ms+ = High latency

Step 1 – Open Your MT4 Or MT5 Terminal

Login to your Forex VPS and open your MetaTrader terminal.

At the bottom-right corner of MT4/MT5, you will see the connection speed indicator.

MT4 / MT5 → Bottom Right Corner Example: “5.23 kb | 3 ms”

The number shown in milliseconds (ms) is your broker latency.

Check MT4 MT5 latency Step 1 – Open MT4 or MT5 and locate the latency indicator at the bottom-right corner.

Step 2 – Use The Built-In Broker Ping Tool

Most MT4 and MT5 terminals allow you to manually scan broker servers and compare latency.

  1. Go to Navigator
  2. Right click on Accounts
  3. Select “Open an Account”
  4. Scan broker servers

MT4/MT5 will automatically show the ping result for each server.

Choose the broker server with the lowest ping whenever possible.

Step 3 – Find Your Broker Server IP Address

Some brokers block traditional ping requests. In this case, you can identify the broker server IP using Windows tools.

CTRL + SHIFT + ESC Open: Task Manager → Performance → Open Resource Monitor

Inside Resource Monitor:

  • Go to the Network tab
  • Find terminal64.exe or terminal.exe
  • Check the Remote Address column

This allows you to see which server your MT4/MT5 terminal is connected to.

Many Forex brokers block ICMP ping requests, so Resource Monitor is often the most reliable method.

Step 4 – Check Broker Server Location

Once you find the broker server IP, you can check its location using online IP lookup tools.

Popular Forex broker datacenter locations:

  • LD4 – London
  • NY4 / NY7 – New York
  • AMS – Amsterdam
  • SG – Singapore
  • TYO – Tokyo
If your VPS is physically close to the broker server location, latency will usually be lower.

Step 5 – Optimize Your VPS Location

If your latency is high, the best solution is usually moving your VPS closer to the broker server location.

Example:

  • Broker server in London → Use London VPS
  • Broker server in New York → Use New York VPS
  • Broker server in Singapore → Use Singapore VPS
FXS VPS offers multiple low-latency Forex VPS locations optimized for major broker datacenters.
